4. How much are the lawyers getting paid?

The individual lawyers handling the lawsuit receive nothing. The NTEU Legal Representation Fund will receive a total of 10% of amounts paid to Class Members. The government has contributed an amount estimated to equal 2% of the total amounts paid by the Class, so each Class Member's contribution is estimated to equal approximately 8% of his or her gross back pay award. This money can only be used to support additional litigation on behalf of federal employees.

NTEU filed this lawsuit in 1983 on behalf of all special rate employees covered by Title V of the U.S. Code, regardless of agency, and has fought this case on behalf of these employees for 20 years.
